Touch BASE first hit the streets in October 1998, when immigration to Nova Scotia was almost a trickle and news coverage of world events was thinly spread out.
And so it was precisely our editorial content that gave us a niche market of “NEWCOMERS” many of whom today are immigrant entrepreneurs and many who make up a significant group of professionals from different parts of the world.
But, Touch BASE today is also seen as the newspaper for a global-minded Canadian.
While the paper’s local pages and the website’s content address the challenges of a pluralist society – immigration, racial prejudice, human rights violations, religious diversity, social injustice issues and so on, the world pages provide new perspectives on current events in the five regions of the world: Africa, Asia, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East. That is why our readers include academics and professionals with a global perspective.
The newspaper is a monthly tabloid with a print run of between 3,000 and 4,000 copies, responding to market conditions.
It is distributed to more than 100 outlets across the province of Nova Scotia including coffee shops, big box stores, universities, ESL schools, immigration settlement agencies, all the 13 branches of the Halifax Regional Library, citizenship and immigration offices, some churches and mosques and the two ferry terminals connecting Halifax with Dartmouth.
