New title release: Science and the God Elusion

Science and the God Elusion

A new title Science and the God Elusion by Robin Arthur has now been released on several online sites including Lulu.com, Amazon.com (also Amazon.ca and Amazon.in), BN.com (Barnes & Noble) and the Ingram network. An ebook (PDF and EPUB versions) will be released this week.

Arthur’s book is a riposte to titles by a handful of new atheists whose books, he says, have caused a steadily growing misconception of what science has so far determined about the origins of the universe and of life. “The Big Bang theory, for example, cries out for a divine explanation and the hypothesis presented on the origins of life on earth is ridden with serendipity.” Arthur’s book seeks to bring together all of these scientific and theological conversations to one table so as to open a new window and insight into the God that eludes scientific investigation and presents His wonder through mystical realms.

Dr. Stephen Weppner, Professor of Physics, Eckerd College in the United States, observes in his foreword to this book: “Ambiguity and nuance should also abound when discussing God. Thankfully they are at the heart of Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle in physics, Gödel’s Incompleteness Theorem in mathematics, and Robin Arthur’s work here.”

But Arthur’s book is also a riposte to arguments from atheists who denigrate religion as evil. While  it acknowledges the harm done in the name of religion, it also pricks the ear and rivets the reader’s attention to the millions of deaths that communist-atheist states have presided over. He rigorously defends the moral law and what major religions have done to diminish suffering in the world. The book addresses the conundrums of life, seeking answers to why a loving God would allow suffering and death and it reaches out to  those who despair of the shortcomings of their religious institutions.

Science and the God Elusion presents insights from the last century’s eminent scientists: Albert Einstein, later Fred Hoyle as well as today’s theist scientists including Francis Collins and Gerald Schroeder; philosophers and mystics of the calibre of Thomas Merton; theologians Billy Graham, John Cornwell and eminent men of letters C. S. Lewis; and agnostics like Kurt Vonnegut. But while all of them provide a scholarly dimension to questions about the moral law and insights into theology, Arthur’s book opens a new window through which lens we see why the masses of humanity sidestep science and pursue the search for the Creator. “Mysticism is that spiritual conduit through which man reaches out to God and seeks answers to the most profound questions that have needled man: How and why am I on this planet and  where do I go from here?” Arthur observes.

The book invites the agnostic and everyone with a curiosity about what  science has revealed this far, to examine the mysteries of the universe that dodge it.

But of course, religion and science are two different and complementary avenues to knowledge and truth. Dr. Joseph Prabhu, Professor of Philosophy and Theology at California State University in Los Angeles, observes in this book’s back cover blurb: “It is to Robin Arthur’s great credit that he sees and illustrates this important insight with great charm and in fine detail. This intelligent and wise book demonstrates that the so-called conflict between science and religion is fundamentally misconceived. Seen in their proper complementarity they jointly illumine life’s mystery and many conundrums.”
