This is the Year of the Dog in the Chinese calendar and as celebrations get underway, the new Lunar Year will be celebrated as well at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 in Halifax.
On Saturday, February 10, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, the Museum is hosting a family event presenting Chinese dance performances, live music, martial arts demonstrations and crafting.
According to a statement from the Museum, this will be an opportunity to get familiar with New Year traditions from several Asian cultures, and to take part in hands-on activities including stamp making and paper cuts. Special guests from the community will be on hand to help celebrate including graphic designer and stamp maker Carloe Liu, the Confucius Institute at Saint Mary’s University, the Nova Scotia Chinese Culture and Art Club and Ji Yoon Park’s Taekwondo Team.
Lunar New Year at the Museum will be presented in English and the cost is included with Museum admission. Pier 21 is at 1055 Marginal Road, Halifax.
